HTC Droid Incredible Stock (For Now)

« on: March 31, 2010, 06:19:31 AM »

If you don't want wait for Verizon to push the update to your phone you can update it yourself. Here are the instructions. Credit goes to www.alldroid.org, and user ugot2go123 get the file from them here, https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

HOW TO

Download the zip file
Rename to "update.zip" and copy to the sdcard

Non-Rooted Install:
Power off the DROID and power back on while holding the X key
When you see a "/!\" symbol, press both vol+ and camera
Use the onscreen menu to install update.zip

Rooted Install:
Reboot into SPRecovery
Select Install
Select install Update from SD

Note, that you will lose root access, as we do not have a known root exploit for this yet. So, if you want to keep root, do not install this update until root has been attained.

We must insert the 'ol disclaimer. Install this at your own risk.

I keep getting the following warning when I try to go to the download site.  I haven't see this type of warning before.  Can anyone confirm that the site is safe?

This is probably not the site you are looking for!
You attempted to reach android.clients.google.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as *.google.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of android.clients.google.com. You should not proceed.

Logging into alldroid.org is not working for me either.  Doesn't have any warning of course, but I was just wondering if this is just a problem here on my end or if others are having issues as well.

Thanks for the updates btw guys.  Smiley

I have not installed this. I already have 2.1, and there is no way in the world that I am giving up root access. I see on other websites, that many people have installed this with no problems.

Edit-Just read this over on Droid 2forums. "The update.zip requires you to have stock 2.0.1. It is meant only to update ESD56 to ESE81. It will check for various parts of it before patching and fail if they are not found."

Just updated my Droid 2, was running the stock 2.0.1 and everything went fine.  Rocking some live wallpapers now, nice.  Just wish they would have included the extra home screens.  Sad

I'm thinking I might do it too.  My only concern is if my Home++ home replacement will still work.  3 home screens is the pits. heh

I just updated my DROID to 2.1.  Worked great.  What happened to the extra home screens?  I thought we were going to get some more?Huh?  Maybe they will update that later!
