I have read that the new 4G network for VZW will be activated in 2 months. I also read that the Droid 2 does not physically support the 4G network. If this is true, it kinda sucks that VZW's flagship phone doesn't support a very near future technology.

The biggest difference between 3G and 4G is download speed.  Yea, I know their are other differences but speed is what we all notice.  As far as the cellphone goes - personally, the big difference would be if you were running it on your desktop where you are actually downloading major stuff - not on the cellphone.  So, I wouldn't worry about it.

n telecommunications, 4G is the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards. It is a successor to the 3G and 2G families of standards. In 2009, the ITU-R organization specified the IMT-Advanced (International Mobile Telecommunications Advanced) requirements for 4G standards, setting peak speed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s for high mobility communication (such as from trains and cars) and 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication (such as pedestrians and stationary users)
