Wi-Fi
Droid 2 is Wi-Fi capable, which allow you to access the Internet when you are in range of the Wi-Fi network. Areas within Wi-Fi coverage are deemed hotspots, and can be private (e.g. a home/enterprise network, or a commercial location such as a coffee shop) or public (e.g. municipal).

UMA/GAN
UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access), sometimes referred to as GAN (Generic Access Network), provides carrier services (GSM®/GPRS/EDGE) over unlicensed networks such as Wi-Fi. It allows smartphones that are Wi-Fi capable to make GSM phone calls over Wi-Fi networks.

Could you please explain how uma would work here? If i for example go to a non-verizon area where there is AT&T then i can roam on them?

No, Wifi is home interent, or like wireless internet at a coffe shop or something. You cant use another network, its only Verizon.

I just can't imagine someone ever getting close to 5GB on the Droid 2 unless they have it tethered to their PC (or LapTop) and they are downloaded a million movies!

Scroll down to data packages
Notice the data usage is "unlimited"

Fast i know it says unlimited but is may not be.... These are the articles I have read.

http://answers.oreilly.com/topic/612-if-the-droids-unlimited-data-plan-from-verizon-is-only-5-gb-a-month-how-much-data-do-people-usually-use/

http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/181590/verizon_droid_tethering_will_cost_you.html

Im not sure whether there is a cap or not but its something to keep in mind if your using a mobile torrent application or tethering torrent apps.

looks like the 5 gig limit was for  Mobile Broadband Plans for USB Modems, PC Cards, ExpressCards, MiFi™ 2200, Notebooks or Netbooks...not for smart phone data plans

Now the common market, mostly 54M wireless router speed and the speed of 108M, 300M and another speed Wi-Fi router is gradually become popular. Wi-Fi standards starting next highest transfer rate of up to 6.7G. Of course, this speed is not the speed of the Internet, the Internet is mainly dependent on the speed of Internet connection WIFI hot spots.
